Course Reflective Narrative:
The Japanese Visual Arts through art and media class, including photography, film, maps, and other visual arts materials, helped me understand and learn about Japanese culture. In class we analyzed different photographs in which we analyzed them more than just seeing the photograph visually. I realized that behind a simple photograph there is a lot of information and history. I have never analyzed or thought about certain concepts when I saw a picture, after taking this course every time I see a picture I apply the concepts learned in class and analyze it more than just seeing the picture visually. Something I did in class was an investigation into one of the main religions in Japan. The main religions in Japan are Buddhism and Chinto, my research was about those two main religions in Japan. It was an interesting investigation since it helped me to understand from the religious point the beliefs of Japanese society. Orto of the projects that he realized was that of the omamori in Japan, it was a very interesting research since omamori is an important part of Japanese culture. I had a lot of fun doing this research since before I had seen omamori but I did not know the great story that was behind it was interesting to learn about its history over the years.
