Course Reflective Narrative:
The Chicano Narrative course helped me to understand the Chicano culture more. I learned about many Chicano authors like Reyna Grande. One of the books that we read in class was across a hundred mountains, it was a book that I liked a lot, because it talks about immigration and the people who are left behind. It was a book that I liked a lot because I could identify a lot because my family also emigrated here in the United States. Another book that I read in class that had a great impact on me was the book Desert Blood, it struck me a lot because despite being fiction there is a lot of reality regarding the disappearances and femicides of the city of Juarez. After reading the book of Desert Blood we watched a documentary called the "Miss Missing" This documentary was real facts of the real events based on femicides in Ciudad Juarez. Other of my favorite books read in class was Pocho's book, I also identify a lot with this book since it was from a Chicano boy who was born here and his parents were very acculturated to their Mexican culture. While Pocho adopted a combination of the two Chicano and American cultures. Through the literature of these books I learned about Chicano culture. It was a fascinating class since I could identify a lot with some of the books read in class.
