Critical Reflexion:
Service Learning in the Chicano Latino Community was a wonderful experience. This class gave me the opportunity to interact with my community by doing my Service Learning this fall 2017. I did my service learning in the Ann Soldo Elementary School in Watsonville; I had the opportunity to worked with Kindergarten students and it was an amazing experience. I learned how to helped them in many ways: concepts in math, writing, lectures. I never had that experience before interacting with this students in a classroom and I’m thankful that thanks to the service Learning program i had the opportunity to interact with the students. I learned how a classroom is set and also the routines that the teachers used everyday to be consistent with the students. I liked how the classroom had numbers, the ABC, and also they have like a mini-library. I learned also how teachers used different techniques to make the students be focus, especially with Kindergarten students. The teacher would have an activity for me every day that I was helping her. I worked with some childrens that were having problems with math and writing. Sometimes, it was challenging for me because in some situations I don't know how to react, one day a student was crying because she couldn't draw her teddy-bear and the teacher came and I saw how she resolved the issue. The teacher told her to do her best on drawing her favorite teddy-bear, and she helped the student get started with the head of the teddy-bear. One time I was working with a student that did not know yet how to count 1 through 10 and I felt very proud of myself when I was able to teach him the numbers. I’m happy that this class gave me the opportunity to interact with my community and to experience the environment in a class-room. I did an investigation for my class on my own community and it was very interesting, learning about my own community, thanks to this project now I know more about my own community. I think that interacting with my community and doing an investigation about the community, both helped me in a way that now I know more about my own community.
