Course Reflective Narrative:
This Global literature course helped me gain knowledge about Global literature. I learned about the postcolonial and global contexts. One of the books that we read was that of Rigoberta Menchú. In this ethnography were real facts of the life of Rigoberta Menchú, an indigenous Mayan of Guatemala. This book had a great impact on the personal since I learned in the conditions in which many of the Mayans and other indigenous groups live. Indigenous people suffer from discrimination, their rights are violated, such as they were with Rigoberta Menchú and her family. Rigoberta is a person who suffered too much, but managed to get ahead and fought for indigenous rights. This book read in class helped me to understand more the condition of life in which indigenous groups live. I also learned a lot about their Mayan culture and beliefs. Another book that I read in class was the sons of Sanchez also an ethnography that was very interesting since it was also based on a real story. This story was based on a family from Mexico that are of very low social class. This book was very interesting because it shows a lot of the obstacles and problems that many of the social class families go through. The cosmic Race was also an interesting book that I read, it was about classicism it was a hard book to read but very interesting. The two books were very interesting and helped me to have more understanding about social classes, and about the Maya.
